You spot your light on my eyes
I stop in my tracks and snap my brake line

You cast your rays of insight
I’m fascinated and intimidated at the same time
Not in a bad way it just feels like I’ve judged this poorly, and
I won’t live up to your hype
No I won’t

And I try too hard and I overthink
By the time my ego’s overgrown it shrinks

My confidence comes and goes
Your conversation is beyond my level of wit and it shows
I won’t give up yet but you bring me a new hill to climb, and
My sloppy pace is too slow
Oh, it’s too slow
Much too slow

And I think too hard and forget to speak
So I shrink and hide until someone rescues me

I played a tune that you knew
And you were amused and when I finished up I smiled at you, but then
You asked if I knew some sophisticated wishful requests, and
Reluctantly I had no clue
And I used up every sleight of hand
But my book of tricks by the looks of it was far too predictable and I understand
I’ll take this opportunity to learn from my insecurities
And next time dispose of this whole plan

And I stare too hard and forget to blink
And I care too much does that make me weak
Do you try too hard do you overthink
Do you drain your options or overflow the sink

And I look too far it’s the death of me
